THIS IS MISRA

Our story

Every culture grapples with the same fundamental questions: How do we live well? What does it mean to belong? How do we find meaning? Yet across geography and time, different cultures approach these challenges through distinct lenses. A Japanese artist explores awakening through ink; an African philosophy speaks to interconnectedness. A Greek concept reveals truth as unconcealment; a poet from the Middle East finds the sacred in language. Each perspective illuminates something essential. These are different verses in the same human poem.

This is where Misra begins. We believe there is profound beauty in the diversity of how cultures approach shared human challenges. By celebrating these perspectives—their depth, their specificity—we learn not just about the world, but about ourselves. And by collaborating with contemporary artists from these regions to reinterpret timeless cultural insights, we create work that bridges tradition and the present moment.

We started Misra to bring this wisdom into everyday life. We work with artists globally because art has always been where ideas become real. We are committed to making products that are beautiful to live with and made with genuine care for the people and planet who create them. In a world of noise and waste, we wanted to build something quieter, something that lasts.

We are only at the beginning. We're grateful you're here.

Vishal,
Founder, Misra

We take inspiration from ancient wisdom and global cultures to craft objects that spur reflection and spark dialogue.

How we do it

Why we exist

We believe that genuine curiosity about other cultures is an antidote to division. When we engage deeply with how others think and create, we stop seeing difference as threat and start seeing it as wisdom. We exist to make that engagement accessible—to bring the perspectives of cultures worldwide into the everyday, so that curiosity becomes a practice, not a luxury.

What we do

We create art-led collections in collaboration with artists, inspired by cultural concepts and philosophies from around the world. We seek to curate dialogues and spark reflection through our products and the stories that we share.

Our name comes from Urdu, where a "Misra" is a line or couplet in a poem, with each misra conveying a particular thought, emotion or an idea. Our hope is that each of our products can be a conduit to share ideas and inspiration that help you connect with yourself, reflect on your life, and grow as a human.

How we do it

We build Misra on three core commitments.

Responsible materials and craft

We work exclusively with suppliers who share our values. Every print is made on FSC-certified archival paper, every frame sourced responsibly. We believe that beautiful things should be made thoughtfully, from start to finish.

Direct artist collaboration

At the heart of Misra is a commitment to supporting independent artists from the regions and cultural traditions we draw inspiration from. We commission contemporary artists to reinterpret timeless ideas—not to preserve tradition, but to bring it forward. Artists are credited, compensated fairly, and treated as creative collaborators, not vendors.

Supporting the next generation

We contribute 5% of all revenue to the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity. This fund supports emerging artists and cultural practitioners from underserved communities, helping ensure that creative voices from around the world have the space and resources to develop their practice. It's how we put meaning behind our belief that art and culture matter.
